San Cataldo Stories
San Cataldo (Lecce)
In San Cataldo, the seaside district of Lecce, the lighthouse is the surface of an interactive 3D video mapping that tells the maritime history of the place. The coastal port of the past, where according to legend the Irish saint who changed the name of the place from Portus Adrianus to San Cataldo landed in the early centuries of the Christian era, has its heart in the monumental complex at the punta cataldina: the Roman imperial jetty, brought back to light, and the lighthouse building, today home to the local Coast Guard office.
The initiative was funded by the public call of the Comune di Lecce for its summer programme. Andrea Carpentieri was responsible for the interaction design, for Insynch Associazione Culturale. The projections lasted five or six minutes and were repeated at intervals of about fifty minutes; between one run and the next, the audience could choose and animate the content interactively.
